Kon Tiki Shave Ice

Who knew weddings would be our biggest market?  We’ve booked more weddings than any other type of event and things are just getting started!  I myself hadn’t heard of having shave ice at a wedding until starting Kon Tiki, but now I see its a perfect fit.  It’s uniquely Hawaiian and a great way to cool off after those hot outdoor ceremonies!

Our very first booking was for a wedding, Tim and Jana Dang asked to be driven from the church to their reception in the shave ice truck!  Of course we said yes to such an awesome idea and they enjoyed a Lychee flavored shave ice on the way to the hotel.

Target is using the Kon Tiki shave ice truck to give away FREE shave ice on the island of Hawaii.  Target opens on the Big Island on July 26th so be sure to check it out!

Target will be borrowing the Kon Tiki Shave Ice truck as part of their promotion for the new store in Kona.  This means the Kon Tiki truck will be sporting a brand new look and will be shipped to the Big Island from Oahu.

The new design looks great and is being applied as a vinyl wrap to the truck.  The new store will be the third in Hawaii and the first on the Big Island!

Finally!  After over two months of waiting the episode that we saw filmed was aired!  For everyone who caught it last night we saw the part where Jack, Kate, and Faraday shoot at the Dharma dudes, blow up the mechanics building and ride off in the jeep.

We heard all the gunshots and saw the big explosion from our truck which was parked up a hill behind the mechanics building set.

Effing awesome is all I can say!

We’ve started our Ice Cream and Popsicle sales!  We should be starting our shave ice sales by next week.  Make sure to come on down and visit us!

We’re available to come to your North Shore business to attract customers and draw crowds.  Attach your banner to the side of our truck to let everyone know who brought the shave ice!

We had our first paid gig yesterday, serving the crew of LOST at their filming location.  I can’t say anymore because they might sick the smoke monster on us.

Getting a safety sticker has proven to be harder than I thought. Matthew and I just changed the oil, brake fluid and coolant, and fixed the horn. I attached the license plates, bought new marking light domes and figured I was good to go.

Not so.

Wally Ho’s and Jiffy Lube both took one look at it and said ‘No’.

So I took it to Aiea Auto Service & Supply. The guy there was nice but he found a couple new problems.

It turns out I need something called… brake lights? ; )

Also, reverse lights and a light for the rear license plate.

Another problem I found was that my gas display always says empty and my spedometer nearly always reads “65 mph”

I just want to get started!

We’re painting the truck light blue with a white trim.  Angelica and I sanded and put on a primer then Keenan came to help put on the first coat of blue.

We purchased a 1984 FJ8C AMG Mail Truck for use as our shave ice vehicle.  It has about 90,000 miles, no power steering or AC, and more rust than the Titanic! The previous owner painted it in a variety of colors and it’s in a pretty bad condition right now.

The FJ-8C seems to be the favorite vehicle of ice cream truck drivers everywhere and makes a cameo in the movie Borat!
